I was out scouting locations when the white boat caught my eye. I came back that evening to photograph it. As you can probably see by the color of the clouds, the sunset that day was spectacular. The scene is facing East so I gave up an opportunity to shoot into the sun for this scene. The winds were a little high so I used my new Syrp Variable Neutral Density filter to obtain longer exposures and flatten out the waves. This also allowed for a smoother reflection of the pink and red in the clouds. The bonus was the rising full moon which is featureless due to the long exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Captain Chen was very curious as to why I was photographing his boat. We struck up a short conversation about his boat and fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. His family has lived in the area for a long time and he&#8217;s been operating a boat most of his life. The camera was set on Manual\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at five seconds and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability and my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhphotovideo.com\/c\/product\/1302705-REG\/syrp_0002_0010_variable_nd_filter_kit.html\" target=\"_blank\">Syrp Variable Neutral Density filter<\/a> for a longer exposure.
