I was not planning on photographing insects\u00a0or Texas Wildflowers when I began planning for my recent trip to Big Bend National Park. However, I was not aware of the large number of butterflies flying around wildflowers along the Blue Creek Trail so I took advantage of the situation and photographed them despite not having my macro great with me. I posted a photograph of Hunting Wasps<\/a> last month that I photographed along the same trail. It was during the same hike that I photographed this Passion Butterfly (Agraulis vanillae). I was very impressed with the sharpness of the Sigma 17-50mm lens when taking close-up photos. It is one of my better butterfly photos.<\/p>\n

Passion Butterflies are present in South America, through Central America, Mexico, the West Indies and the Southern United States. They are very rare northward. In the US they are present throughout the year in South Florida and South Texas. There were a significant amount of these and other kinds of butterflies on the trial. I will look for a couple more to share in the days ahead.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Canon EOS 7D Mark II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Sigma 17-50mm f\/2.8 Lens\u00a0set on 50mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f\/8, shutter speed at 1\/800th of a second and the ISO set at 400. I\u00a0hand-held the camera. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.<\/p>\n
