Happy “All Souls’ Day”! I always find this time of year interesting. The three days starting with Halloween on October 31st, “All Saints’ Day” on November 1st and “All Souls’ Day”\u00a0on November 2nd have the same origin dating back to the early days\u00a0of the Catholic church. There are many traditions surrounding these events. The most popular tradition in this part of the world is the Mexican tradition of “Dia de los Muertos” (“Day of the Dead”), celebrated on November 2nd. The days preceding this special day are marked with preparation and festivities. It is not only a time of reflection but also celebration. For those of you that are familiar with this festive day, you will recall that skulls and masks made to look like skulls are prominent throughout the festivities. I was photographing in downtown Austin last winter when I ran across this neon sign in the shape of a skull in a window of one of the shops. I thought it was ideal to commemorate this day.<\/p>\n

This image was taken with my\u00a0Sony Alpha A7R II<\/a>\u00a0using my\u00a0Rokinon 85mm f\/1.4 Lens<\/a>. The camera was set on\u00a0Aperture priority<\/a>\u00a0mode with the aperture set at f\/2.8, shutter speed at 1\/640th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I mentioned in my earlier post that managing the manual aperture and focus on this lens was a challenge, but, I had a good time doing it. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex\u00a0Pro.<\/p>\n
