I photographed this Eastern Red Columbine at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin a couple of weeks ago. The winds were perfectly calm and I was able to capture 15 perfectly still images in order to stitch together my stack. I was surprised to see this Columbine at the Wildflower Center because I did not think it was endemic to Texas. I brought one of these Columbines back with me last summer after visiting family in Arkansas but it died in the summer heat. I will now look for some to plant in the back yard as I think that their flowers are beautiful. I really like Columbines in general but I especially like this variety.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/30th of a second and the ISO set at 800. I used a tripod for stability and my Kirk Focusing Rail to obtain 15 images which I brought together into one image using Photoshop and the focus stacking technique. I then finalized the image in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
