American Basket Flower

Happy June! I finally made it back out to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center this week where I photographed this American Basket Flower. I thought I had photographed it before but as it turns out I had not. I am glad that I did. I’m very impressed by the intricate details of this flower. You can probably guess why this plant was named a Basket Flower.

The American Basket Flower (Centaurea americana), is native to south-central United States and northeastern Mexico. I can’t recall seeing this plant outside of Central Texas. I understand that this is a very easy plant to grow and that it requires little maintenance. I think I’m going to plant this one in my yard next year.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 6D Mark II using my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/4.5, shutter speed at 1/100th of a second and the ISO set at 200. I used a tripod for stability and my Kirk Focusing Rail to obtain 15 images which I brought together into one image using Zerene Stacker. I then finalized the image in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
