A few years ago my photography friend Mark introduced me to the Lensball. I took a similar photo about two years ago when I visited Yellowstone NP in the winter of 2020. One of my goals this trip was to find more creative ways to use this great toy. So, I set out one morning and hiked up to the Old Faithful observation point to photograph Old Faithful through a Lensball. This is the result.
The Lensball acts as a prism so the image comes out upside down. I decided not to manipulate the image in photoshop to correct the effect. Enjoy.
This image was taken with my Sony A7R IV using my Sony FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens with my 1.4x extender set on 200mm (280mm with extender). The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/25, shutter speed at 1/640th of a second, and the ISO set at 640. I hand-held the camera for this photo and focused on the Lensball from about 12 feet away. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
