Yesterday I had the opportunity to visit Biscuit Basin located just north of the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. It was a 6-mile snowshoe hike from the Old Faithful Snow Lodge which is located near the famous Old Faithful Geyser. The area is home to some very colorful hydrothermal features including Sapphire Pool which is the origin of the “biscuits” that gave the area its name. Unfortunately, the “biscuits” were blown away when an earthquake hit the area and caused the Saphire Pool to erupt violently.
If you are staying in the Old Faithful area I recommend this hike and a return through the alternate route which takes you through a woody area. If going in the winter, be sure to rent snowshoes. You won’t regret it.
This image was taken with my Sony A7R IV using my Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 Lens set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/11 to achieve a nice starburst, shutter speed at 1/500th of a second, and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for this photo. This is a panorama image using six images brought together and processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
