Yellowstone Bald Eagle

I photographed this Yellowstone Bald Eagle shortly after photographing the falls along the Firehole River during my recent visit to the park. We spotted the Bald Eagle as we were exiting the parking area.

Bald eagles, which may reuse the same nest year after year, occupy territories near the park’s major rivers and lakes. The number of eaglets that fledge each year depends partly on weather and can fluctuate widely. Juveniles may migrate west in the fall but adults often stay in the park year-round.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 7D Mark II using my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 II Lens set on 400mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/100th of a second and the ISO set at 320. I hand-held the camera for this shot. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
