Lone Split Tree

Lone trees are a favorite of most landscape photographers. There is a certain esthetic appeal to a lone tree out in a field, especially one surrounded by snow. I found this lone split tree while traveling down the Grand Loop Road in the Hayden Valley of Yellowstone National Park with the photography group I was traveling with. I photographed a different tree on the other side of the road when I was in the same location two years ago. Little did I know that this often-photographed tree was nearby.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 II Lens set on 200mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/5.6, shutter speed at 1/1600th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I hand-held the camera. This is a single image processed using Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
