Heart Spring

A view of Castle Geyser in the distance as seen from Heart Spring located up the hill, a short walk away along the boardwalks of the Upper Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park. I photographed these features during my trip to the park earlier this month. Heart spring is one of many geological features found in this section of the park. It’s always a treat to walk around and explore the area.

Heart Spring is a pretty pool of clear blue water, 15 feet deep and 10 feet across, enclosed by white sinter mats and orange-brown algae. It was named in the 1950s because of its heart-like shape. The pool is generally inactive, its water temperature a little below boiling.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens set on 42 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/14, shutter speed at 1/20th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a polarizer to remove the reflection and I also used a tripod for stability  This is a single image processed using Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
