Balanced Rock, located along the Grapevine Hills Trail in Big Bend National Park, is one of my go-to photography places when traveling to the area. Last year, the group I was with made the hike in the middle of the night to capture the Milky Way and do some light painting. The meteor was a pleasant bonus.
Big Bend National Park is a designated Dark Sky area. The International Dark Sky Places program was founded in 2001 to encourage communities, parks and protected areas around the world to preserve and protect dark sites through responsible lighting polices and public education. The number of stars you can see with the naked eye is amazing! I’m looking forward to going back here later this spring.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using my Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone night lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/2.8, shutter speed at 25 seconds and the ISO set at 6400. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed using Lightroom and completed in Photoshop.

This picture would look better with a clothed person in it. And the last thing you would want to do is photoshop such a fine picture.
