Dorgan House at Dusk

The Dorgan House at Dusk. One of my favorite locations at Big Bend National Park. I took this photo in the fall of 2017. To the left is Santa Elena Canyon. The fire in the fireplace is not real. I took some dead brush and put an LED tea light inside to simulate a fire. It worked better than I expected. There was enough ambient light to provide lighting for the house and the foreground. I don’t recall using any other type of artificial lighting.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using my Irix 15mm f/2.4 Blackstone night lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/2.8, shutter speed at 30 seconds and the ISO set at 3200. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed using Lightroom.

  1. Terry, it’s good to see you posting again. I love these night shots you’ve posted over the last few days, they look great. And really nice touch illuminating the fireplace. Such a small thing, easily overlooked, but it’s that sort of detail that can make a photo really stand out. Nicely done.
