Rio Grande

A panoramic sunset view of Mexico from the other side of the Rio Grande. This spot is located along Highway 170 between Lajitas and Presidio. It was a short walk from the parking area to the river but getting close to the water was a bit of a challenge.

We were looking for areas of the river that had large rocks. There were not many accessible spots due to the above normal volume of water in the river. The rocks that we found were far from the shore so I decided to compose the photos with the three layers (water, land and sky), each occupying about a third of the frame.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 35 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/11, shutter speed at one-half of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a polarizing filter to cut down on the reflection, a tripod for stability and my Kirk rail to avoid parallax errors. This is a series of five images brought together into a single image and processed in Lightroom. I completed the processing in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
