Night Sky Over Dorgan House

Most of you probably know by now that one of my favorite locations in Big Bend National Park is the Dorgan House located along the Dorgan-Sublett Trail near Santa Elena Canyon. I made a stop there during my fall photography trip to the area. The skies were very clear and the conditions were ideal for night photography.

I have written before about the Dorgan house and its history. I am very intrigued by the people that called this area home and by the lifestyle they lived. During this trip, I was able to locate some more ruins just upstream from this location and to visit an old homestead in the Big Bend Ranch State Park. All of these locations were connected by dirt roads which were built to sustain the mining operations and the communities that supported them. I am looking forward to photographing these structures in future trips.

This image was taken with my Sony A7R II using my Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 Lens set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/2.8, shutter speed at 20 seconds and the ISO set at 3200. I used a tripod for stability. I lit the inside of the ruins with a couple of tea lights. The outside of the ruins was lit by the moon and my Coast HP7R flashlight with some filters.  This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop.
