I visited Firehole Falls during the second day of the “Yellowstone in Winter” photography workshop I attended last month. There are a limited number of vantage points to photograph the falls. I found this vantage point to be the best place to photograph the falls.
Firehole Falls is located right next to Firehole drive which follows the Firehole River. The narrow and short waterfall sits amidst 800-foot thick lava flows that form the canyon walls. There is a small swimming area just upstream from the falls that is very popular in the summer months.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV using my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens set on 70mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/14, shutter speed at one half of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability and my Syrp Neutral Density filter to extend the exposure. This is a single image processed in Lightroom then finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
