No trip to West Texas is complete without visiting the Prada Store. The storefront says “Marfa” but in reality it is closer to Valentine, Texas than it is to Marfa. The store sits right next to Highway 90 and it is a very popular tourist attraction. There is nothing but empty fields around it and the Southern route of the railroad linking the Eastern and Western United States is across the street. I was hoping for a magnificent sunset but the clouds took over and blocked the sun. The clouds were very interesting nonetheless.
The Prada Store (mostly known as Prada Marfa) is actually a sculpture. It was built in 2005 at a cost of $120,000. It was realized with the assistance of two American architects and was intended to never be repaired. it was supposed to degrade back into the natural landscape. The plan was deviated when, the night the structure was completed, vandals graffitied the exterior, and broke into the building stealing everything inside.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at one second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
