I just returned from my fall trip to the Big Bend area in West Texas. A winter storm warning was issued for yesterday and, for a change, they got it right. I had to drive through the heart of the West Texas Snowfall yesterday morning. The snow was very heavy at times. This photograph was taken between Marathon and Fort Stockton in an area that I’ve always wanted to photograph. The feature in the background is called a “dike”. A dike is a flat vertical sheet-like magma body that cuts through older rocks and rises above the surface. There are many dikes in the Big Bend area and they are one of my favorite geological features.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 18mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/800th of a second and the ISO set at 800. I hand-held the camera for this photo. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
