Hen Egg Mountain

I scouted the Hen Egg Mountain area in April of this year in hopes of finding a new location to photograph during my trips to the Big Bend area. Hen Egg Mountain was at the top of my list when I made the trip to the area last week. We managed to find a great vantage point with 360 degree views. The sunset was amazing that evening. This photograph is looking east towards the mountain. The clouds were plentiful for a change! The orange and yellow colors provided by the sunset helped accentuate the earthy tones of the mountain and the surounding valley. The only downside of this location was the lack of a good foreground (e.g. a nice cactus).

Hen Egg Mountain is located ten miles north of Terlingua in southwestern Brewster County. The mountain top is 5,005 feet above sea level and rises 1,720 feet above State Highway 118, two miles to the east.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f11, shutter speed at 1/3rd of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
