Austin Sunset

Photographing the Austin sunset from the walkway on Lady Bird Lake is one of my favorite vantage points. This photograph was taken in the summer of 2015. The skyline has changed dramatically since then as many new building have been built. I plan on going back out there soon to get a new view from this vantage point. I will be sure to share it so you can see the difference.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon 24-105mm f/4L Lens set on 24 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/22, shutter speed at 4 seconds and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.

  1. Beautiful image, Terry! I agree about the light making a huge difference. And the composition is fantastic, with the walkway leading the eye to the left edge of the skyline, across the skyline, down to the gorgeous reflections, and back to the walkway to do it all over again.

I’ve also been recently going back through some of my older images, and thinking it would be good to get back to these locations again to get new views, especially at different times of year.

    1. Thanks Todd. I really like that location and I agree about returning to the scene multiple times. A lot of famous photographers do that and I understand why.

  2. Great perspective and I can see why you like to shoot here often. The four seconds has smoothed the water just right for a pleasing glow and gives the clouds the nice slight sense of movement..
I’ve several favorite spots that I return to often and composing for a new way of seeing them. Looking forward to your next trip here.

      1. Ha! I knew I should have said “there” at the end. :-) But I certainly encourage you to come up this way some time. I feel the same way about Texas and many other places but am not much for traveling.
