Dave Smith’s Place

Part of my ancestry runs through Northwest Arkansas. I have fond memories of visiting my grandparents in what was known as “Dave Smith’s Place”. In the old days, and probably to some degree now, properties were named for its original inhabitants. This was the case for my grandparents who purchased the property in this photograph from Mr. Smith. My grandparents passed away back in the 1990’s and the property was sold to another, unrelated family but it’s still “Dave Smith’s Place”. I recently made a trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas to visit some of my relatives and decided to go photograph the old house. Although nobody lives on the property, I had to act quickly to avoid any confrontations (if you know what I mean)…

This image was taken with my Sony A7R II using my Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 Lens set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/3.5, shutter speed at 20 seconds and the ISO set at 5000. I used a tripod for this photo. I lit the outside of the house with my Coast HP7R flashlight and some custom filters. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
