Old Movie Set

To my knowledge there are two old movie sets in the Big Bend Ranch State Park. The Contrabando Movie Set located just off of highway 170 near the town of Lajitas, TX, is the most popular and most accessible. But, there is a second old movie set located just west of the park that is quite interesting. I was alerted to this location by one of the park volunteers who is also a photographer. The directions were a bit sketchy so I sat out one day to find it. I was lucky enough to do so and used it for one of my evening photo shoots. One of the main attractions in this area is the amazing rock formations. I will try to showcase them more during my next visit to the area. As is the case with some of the other night locations in Big Bend I did a bit of light painting and also utilized the very bright moon to light up the scene. I don’t know what movies were filmed here. I did quite a bit of research but could not find any information. If you know about it let me know.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/4.5, shutter speed at 25 seconds and the ISO set at 6400. I used a tripod for stability. I leveraged the moonlight for the exterior, lit the inside of the structure and the oven inside with tea lights. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
