Grapevine Hills Sunrise

I’m heading to Big Bend National Park today for a summer visit. The temperatures are very pleasant right now so it should be a good trip. I hope to visit some of the popular locations (like Grapevine Hills and Lost Mine Trail) as well as some new ones. The goal is to leverage Big Bend’s dark night skies and hone my night photography skills. I have picked out some new areas and I’m excited to get some different photographs. Posting will be sporadic for the next few days. I look forward to sharing some of my favorite photographs when I return. In the meantime, the photograph below was taken in the fall of 2016. I was looking for a different vantage point to photograph Balanced Rock (on the left side of the frame), so I hiked beyond the rock and photographed a panorama to capture the entire scene.

I will be documenting my trip on Instagram. You can follow my progress by checking out my Instagram feed here.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/16, shutter speed at 1/15th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability and my Kirk Long Rail to avoid Paralax isues. This is a series of 6 images brought together in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
