A Giant Wood Nymph (Idea leuconoe) photographed in the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing of the Reiman Gardens on the Iowa State University Campus in Ames, Iowa. This species is no nymph in wingspan (up to 4.5 inches) but it was most likely given this name as a result of its graceful flight. The flight behavior of these butterflies is slow and graceful, alternating between fluttering wing strokes and gliding dips. The giant wood nymph is native to southeast Asia.
This image was taken with my Sony A7R II using my Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 Lens set on 200mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/9, shutter speed at 1/250th of a second and the ISO set at 1600. I hand-held the camera for this photo. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
