Joshua Tree Sunset

Yesterday I wrote about photographing directly into the sun in order to obtain a starburst. I captured this photograph of a Joshua Tree Sunset in the same location (Hidden Valley in Joshua Tree National Park) a few minutes before the one I posted yesterday. The sun was higher in the horizon so I was able to leverage this outcropping alongside the Joshua Tree then run to the other location and capture that photograph. This is a technique I use often. I find the higher point locations then move my camera to the lower points as the sun sets. That way I get multiple starbursts in one evening.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 18mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/13, shutter speed at 1/500th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a series of three bracketed images (-1, 0, +1) brought together into a single image using Lightroom’s HDR feature. I then completed the image in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
