Longspur Columbine

The Longspur Columbine is one of my favorite flowers. I first photographed this flower at the Cattail Falls in Big Bend National park when I visited the park in the spring of 2015. The photos I took then were not very good, primarily because I had no idea what I was doing. Armed with better gear and more knowledge, I decided to hike up the nearly 3 miles to the falls with my photography friends to photograph this wonderful looking flower again. When we arrived, I found a flower that was somewhat isolated. This would give me a better, less cluttered background. It was low to the ground so I had to do some stooping in order to capture all the images in focus. I have additional photos of this flower that I will process and post in the near future.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/2.8, shutter speed at 1/250th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability and my Kirk Focusing Rail to obtain 21 images which I brought together into one image using Photoshop and the focus stacking technique. I then finalized the image in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
