I was out doing some work near a creek on our property when I noticed quite a few Cedar Sage flowers (Salvia roemeriana) so I got my camera and photographed some of them. It is hard to appreciate the flowers due to their size so I decided to get a good closeup of one of them to show some of the details. The flower is not very big but what it’s missing in size it makes up with it’s brilliant red color. It was so red that I actually toned it down a bit. Sometimes highly saturated plants look unreal on the monitor. I hope I got it right.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/4, shutter speed at 1/160th of a second and the ISO set at 800. I used a tripod for stability and my Kirk Focusing Rail to obtain 15 images which I brought together into one image using Photoshop and the focus stacking technique. I then finalized the image in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
