I purchased a DJI Phantom 3 Advanced quadcopter (aka Drone) two years ago and I have been playing with it ever since. It is a joy to fly and I consider it a natural extension to my photography hobby. At the suggestion of a good friend of mine, I volunteered to shoot some aerial photography and video for the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, TX. The Marketing Director had planned out several routes within their facility that he wanted to capture. My friend and I showed up yesterday morning early and flew five routes. I captured this photograph of the “Family Garden” during the next-to-last route. The Family Garden is an area for children to play and it is filled with hands-on activities. The play areas are somewhat hard to discern in this photo but if you look closely you will see them. What intrigued me when I arrived at home and began processing the photos is how this view offers such a new perspective. I’m not sure if the motorcycle design was intentional or not. I will have to ask that when I return for part two of my assignment. I will be sure to let you all know when the final product has been put to use.
On another note, I have been quite busy lately so my daily postings have faltered. My apologies. I will be attending a photography workshop all of next week so my sporadic postings will probably continue. I hope to be back on track soon.
This image was taken with my DJI Phantom Advanced quadcopter using its built-in FC300S camera. The camera was set on Automatic mode with the aperture set at f/2.8, shutter speed at 1/170th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used Lightroom for the preliminary processing and then finalized it using Nik Color Efex Pro.
