Penguin Nest Builder

I photographed this Penguin taking materials to build its nest during my trip to Simon’s Town, South Africa. And, no, that’s not bacon in its beak, it is seaweed. If you ever visit Cape Town you must take a short drive down to Simon’s Town where the penguin colony resides. Simon’s Town is located about 45km south of the city. The colony is located in the middle of the town in an area called Boulders Beach. This is where the large colony is located and you will see a few Penguin Nest Builders there. You can walk along the boardwalk and photograph them at will. I was impressed by how small they are.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L II Lens set on 400mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/1000th of a second and the ISO set at 320. This was a single image processed in Lightroom and completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
