Last Super Moon of 2016

I heard on the local news that yesterday was the last Super Moon for 2016 and that the skies were going to be clear. I decided to take advantage of this rare event and planned a hike to the top of the Pennybacker Bridge Overlook in northwest Austin to see if I could photograph the full moon along with some of the scenery along the Colorado river. I met a friend about an hour before sunrise (90 minutes before moonset). We hiked up the hill and setup our gear on a ledge. This was one of my test shots to make sure that my lens was properly configured and that the images were sharp. It was a bit hazy but I was able to get rid of most of the haze in Lightroom.

It seems to me that every month is the “last supermoon” for a few decades only to have yet another super moon four weeks later. I guess the term full moon no longer carries enough drama so the supermoon is the new label. Kind of like the Polar Vortex instead of a “Strong Cold Front”.  I guess we have to have new terms every now and then. To me, this was just a very nice, full moon…

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 II Lens set on 400mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/60th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. I captured a total of three images which I stitched together into one image using Photoshop. I completed processing in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
