I passed by Grant’s Monument while photographing the Chicago skyline from Lincoln Park. I photographed the entire monument but did not find it as interesting as the base. You all know by now that I am a sucker for symmetry so I had to stop and photograph this section of the monument. I especially liked the fact that there was a big red barn on the other side. The barn is part of the Lincoln Park Zoo.
Interestingly enough, the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial is located in the heart of Lincoln Park and the Abraham Lincoln statute is located in the heart of Grant Park. There are many discussions among Chicago residents about this interesting fact. Either way, the memorial sits right next to the busy Lake Shore Drive and is visible to Chicago commuters. By the way, Lincoln Park also has a Lincoln Memorial but it pails in comparison to Grant’s.
This image was taken with my Sony Alpha A7R II using my Sony 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 25mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/9, shutter speed at 1/5th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom then completed in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
