Elk in the Rain

I photographed this bull elk in the rain during my trip to Yellowstone National Park last September. I crouched behind some tall grass and focused on the tops of the plants in order to get this type of image. The bonus was capturing the rain drops as they fell. This bull elk is a member of the Madison Elk herd. The herd hangs around the Madison River which is located just east of the town of West Yellowstone. The location is popular with tourists, wildlife photographers and wildlife enthusiasts. We stopped there nearly every morning to photograph the herd.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 7D Mark II using my Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 II Lens set on 371mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/400th of a second and the ISO set at 800. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
