Balanced Rock Sunrise

One of my favorite hikes in Big Bend National park is up the Grapevine Hills Trail to the Balanced Rock formation. I went on the hike last month with two of my photography colleagues where we captured another Balanced Rock Sunrise. The vistas from the formation are amazing and the sunrise setting is fantastic. The hike is a short 1.3 mile hike. It’s mostly flat until the end where some moderate rock climbing is required. Once there, the terrain is very manageable, although there are spots where some skill is required. The geology of the area is one of the best in the park. I always look forward to this hike and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Big Bend National Park.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16mm. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/16, shutter speed at 1/10th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I used a tripod for stability. This is a single image processed in Lightroom then finalized in Photoshop using Nik Color Efex Pro.
