Election Day

Today is Election Day in the United States. I thought I would post a photograph of the United States Capitol Building in Washington, DC to commemorate the day. I captured this photograph in the summer of 2005 using my medium-format film camera. I processed the film in my darkroom (which I finally dismantled and donated this year).

I miss photographing and developing film but I don’t want to return to the “good ol’ days”. Digital photography has changed the world. Most of us now walk around with a camera in our pocket that provides us instant gratification. Gone are the days of changing out the roll of film and sending it off to be developed. Social media would not be what it is today without the ability to photograph every element of our daily lives. And, there would be no “selfies” nor “selfie sticks”. So, the next time you photograph with your digital camera, think about all the time and effort you are saving compared to photographing with film.

This image was taken with my Mamiya 7II using my Mamiya N4/80L 80mm lens. The camera was set on manual mode but I don’t recall the settings. I used Kodak TMX 100 film for these images. I developed the film and made the prints in my darkroom.  I scanned the image into my computer using my Epson V750 flatbed scanner and processed the digital image using Lightroom and Photoshop.
