Butterfly Peek

I thought I would take a break from processing Texas Wildflowers and show something a little bit different. Yes, there is a Gregg’s Mistflower (Conoclinium greggii) under the Queen Butterfly but let’s focus on the butterfly. I was taking a break on one of the benches at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center during one of my recent trips to the Center when I noticed butterflies landing on the flowers out in the field. It provided a great opportunity for a nice blurry background since there was great separation between the subject and the background. I headed over with my gear after a few minutes of rest. I was trying to photograph the butterflies on full display when I noticed this one  butterfly peeking over the top. So, I focused on it and snapped this photograph.

Butterflies are attracted to a variety of plants including Gregg’s Mistflower flowers. Other flowers that attract butterflies include Purple Coneflower, White Mistflower, Indian Blanket, Gayfeather, Frosted, Golden Eye Daisy, Texas Kidneywood, Horsemint, Elbowbush, Turk’s Cap, Phlox, Texas Lantana and Bee Brush.

This image was taken with my Sony A7R II Digital Camera using my Sony 90mm f/2.8 Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/250th of a second and the ISO set at 400. I used only natural light to light the subject. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.
