One of my favorite spots, and one of the most geologically dramatic areas in Big Bend National Park, is the Santa Elena Canyon area. The canyon is a dividing point between the United States and Mexico. The Rio Grande passes through the canyon and continues on towards the Gulf of Mexico.
This photograph was taken during my last visit to the park. As I have said before, sometimes the best photo is behind you. This was the case that morning. The canyon photo was not very dramatic so I turned around and saw the soft sunrise glow in the sky and the reflection of the sky on the river and decided that it was the better photograph. Clouds would have made the photo better but I like the bright orange glow.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens set on 70 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/250th of a second and the ISO set at 100. This is a single image processed in Lightroom.
