Expired Rain Lily

I was mowing the lawn earlier this week when I spotted a Rain Lily that popped up after a recent rain. I made a mental note to go back and photograph it while it was still in its full glory. When I remembered it was two days later and it was now an expired Rain Lily. I decided that there is beauty even in death so I clipped it and took it into my studio so it could live in digital perpetuity.

MACRO CHALLENGE

Summer is not over here for two more months and the weather forecast calls for hot, sunny days for the foreseeable future. In addition, I have no travel plans for a few weeks so I’m going to be spending more time in my studio photographing objects in my light box. I thought I would have a macro challenge where you all could submit requests or ideas for a macro image. I can photograph most objects at a 1:1 magnification. I can photograph some objects (very rigid objects) at a 10x magnification. So please provide me some ideas of what you would like to see photographed up close and at what magnification. A god example is the pencil that I photographed at 1x, 5x and 10x. Either send me an email through the Contact Me page or leave a comment below.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/8, shutter speed at 1/20th of a second and the ISO set at 100. This image is comprised four focus stacked images captured in my light box using three LED lights. I used Helicon Focus to put together the image. I then finished the image in Lightroom using Nik Color Efex Pro.
