Swimming at Lou Neff Point

It never fails! Just when the sky becomes bathed in wonderful sunset colors someone or something comes by that changes the entire scene. Meet Luis! Luis decided to go swimming at Lou Neff Point at the same time I decided to photograph the Austin skyline at sunset. As you can probably imagine, I was not about to tell him to get out of the way, especially when he was wearing his “colors”. So, I asked “Mr. Luis” if he would like to be part of my photograph and he excitedly accepted my offer. Of course, he wanted to see the photo after I took it so I showed it to him and struck up a conversation. I then packed my gear and headed back to the house.

Lou Neff Point is located at the eastern-most point of Zilker Park where Barton Creek meets Lady Bird Lake just south of the downtown area. This is not only a popular spot for photographers and tourists but also for weddings and special occasions. This spot on the Austin Hike and Bike trail was widened in 2006 and a metal gazebo designed and built by local artists was built to complete the new design.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 24 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/4, shutter speed at 1/3rd of a second and the ISO set at 100. This is a single image processed in Lightroom. I used Photoshop and Nik Color Efex Pro to finalize the image.
