Upon arrival to the final destination in South Africa, I could not help but notice the miles of Blue Gum Tree plantations. Literally thousands of acres planted in very neat rows spaced about six to ten feet apart. Even when venturing off the main highway, one could see trees neatly planted for miles. I decided that these trees would make a good sunset shot. I loaded up my gear and headed out to a location that I thought would be ideal. Upon arrival, the storm gathered and it looked like the sunset was going to be a banner sunset. That was until the clouds dropped down and covered up the bright orange sunset. There was still some color but not as good as I expected. The clouds were spectacular nonetheless.
Blue Gum Tree (Eucalyptus globulus) is native to Australia and is one of the most widely cultivated trees in the world. They typically grow from 100-150 feet tall. Its rapid growth and adaptability to a range of conditions is responsible for its popularity. The primary use for these trees in South Africa is for poles.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/4, shutter speed at 1/30th of a second and the ISO set at 100. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.
