Plantation

After capturing the photograph from yesterday’s post titled Stormy Plantation, I moved in closer to capture a closeup shot of the Blue Gum Tree tree rows, the remaining sunset and the stormy clouds. I’m still not sure if I like this one or the other one better, so, I thought I would post them both.

This tree was introduced to California in the mid-19th century. The Southern Pacific Railroad was in need of timber to make railroad ties and the fast-growing nature of this tree was ideal. As a result, the Blue Gum Tree is prominent in many parks in the San Francisco area. Naturalists and the United States National Park Service consider it an invasive species due to it’s ability to quickly spread and displace native plant communities. Fire departments also consider them to be a fire hazard.
