I drove up the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive on my way back to Cape Town from the Cape of Good Hope. The road is one of the most picturesque drives in the world. Gorgeous rocky hills to one side and sheer cliffs that lead to incredible beaches and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. There are quite a few curves to negotiate and a number of pullover spots for viewing the wonderful scenery. Driving was a bit strenuous but the vistas were amazing. As I drove down the road I realized that the sunset was going to be fantastic. So, I looked for a good place to stop and photograph the colorful sunset. It was hard to do so on Chapman’s Peak Drive so I ended up going all the way to a small town called Clifton. I spotted a city park with giant boulders. I hiked up on top of the largest boulder and captured this sunset.
Clifton is located about 5 miles south of Cape Town and is considered to be one of the more affluent suburbs of the city. It is an exclusive residential area and is home to some of the most expensive real estate in the country. The homes nestled into the cliffs have sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Clifton was rated as one of the Top Ten Beaches by the Discovery Travel Channel. Clifton is only a 20 minute drive from downtown Cape Town.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/22, shutter speed at 1/2 second and the ISO set at 100. This was a single image processed in Lightroom and Nik Color Efex Pro.
