This sunrise photograph was taken last week at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Some of my photography friends and I decided to make a trip out there to photograph the first batch of Texas Wildflowers and we thought that showing up early to capture a sunrise would be a good idea. I had little experience photographing sunrises there so I searched for a good location and found this opening that looked out in the direction of the sunrise. I used my Photographer’s Ephemeris application on my phone and it confirmed my belief that the sun would rise between the trees. So, I setup my camera and tripod and set my aperture to f/22 so I could capture a nice starburst in the middle of the trees. It all worked out as planned.
I discussed some details about the LBJ Wildflower Center in yesterday’s Texas Bluebonnet post. This is a great, family oriented facility. It is worth a stop there when visiting the area. The Center is home to hundreds of native flowers and is full of useful information about plants endemic to Texas. There is a gift shop, a nice coffee shop and dozens of exhibits. My favorite part is arriving early on a weekday (before the school kids arrive) and take in the solitude and peacefulness of the open fields. If you photograph flowers then I recommend you take advantage of mornings with a heavy dew. You will not regret the experience.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5DS using my Canon EF 16-35mm f/4 Lens set on 22 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/22, shutter speed at 1/6th of a second and the ISO set at 100.
