Reflecting

This  year went by so fast! I have been reflecting back on it and I believe that 2015 has been a wonderful year and it was especially so for my photography hobby. I have learned more about photography and I think I have accomplished more things this year than any other year. Most importantly though, I have met a lot of new friends and I have built memorable moments with them. I am especially thankful for my two trips to Big Bend NP where I was able to learn a lot from my friends but also put many of the new techniques I learned to use. Another one of my memorable accomplishments is my updated website.  I had been wanting to upgrade my photography website and this blog is part of that.  It has been incredibly rewarding for me to share my thoughts and photography work with all of you.  Thank you for reading my daily posts and for commenting on my imagery and stories.

My father was a very talented man and he had a great talent for painting and drawing, neither of which I inherited.  So, since I don’t have that talent and I wanted to post a painting, I decided to take this photograph of a Northern Cardinal that I took at Pedernales Falls State Park and use some special effects software to turn it into an oil painting. Perhaps some day I will pick up a brush and canvas and learn a new hobby.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Sigma 150-600mm f/5.6-5.3 Sport Lens set on 600 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/9, shutter speed at 1/500th of a second and the ISO set at 5000. This is a single image processed in Lightroom and then using Topaz Impression to add the oil painting effect.
