I guess I like to photograph churches because I spent so much time in them as a child. I was always studying the architecture and the fine detail work (when I should have been paying attention to what was being said). I am also curious about the architects that design these magnificent structures. Sometimes I am overwhelmed by the intricate details, especially in places like Italy and France. I photographed the Maria Lanakila Catholic Church while visiting the island of Maui in the fall of 2014. I was attracted to this church because of its brightness and symmetry (which you know I like). Maria Lanakila, which means Our Lady of Victory, is located in downtown Lahaina. The Church was established in 1846 and it was designated a National Historic Landmark District on December 29, 1962.
This image was taken with my Sony Alpha a7S using my Sony FE 24-70mm f/4 Lens set on 24mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/14, shutter speed at 1/8th of a second and the ISO set at 100. Processing was done in Lightroom and Photoshop.
