I have posted quite a few images that utilized the High-Dynamic Range (HDR) technique. I often talk about how I took a few bracketed images (-2, 0, +2) and how I brought them together using special software (e.g. Photomatix). I thought it would be helpful to show you how an image looked before and after this process. So, I put together a before and after slider that compares the “zero” image (the one the camera said was the best) and the HDR image (after completing my post-processing). The image below is of a bathroom of the Douglas Mansion in Jerome, Arizona. Jerome is one of my favorite places to visit when traveling in Northern Arizona. Jerome is located about 100 miles north of Phoenix and was founded in the early 19th century on top of Cleopatra Hill (5,000 above sea level). It was supported in its heyday by rich cooper mines. The Douglas Mansion, built in 1916, was once home to Jimmy Douglas, owner of the Daisy Mine. It was donated to the State of Arizona in 1962 and is now a museum devoted to history of the Jerome area and the Douglas family.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 Lens set on 24 mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/4, shutter speed at 1/40th of a second and the ISO set at 100. I took three bracketed images (-2, 0, +2) and brought them together into one image using Photomatix.
