This is another image of the same Western Honey Bee (also known as European Honey Bee) that was part of my “Western” post the other day. I titled this one “Golden” due to the golden hues of the plant and the bee. As I mentioned in that post, the bees were feasting on the nectar produced by these Sunflower Goldeneye flowers. This image does a better job of showing how these bees collect pollen and fly around pollinating other plants. I also think this image does a better job of showing the details of the bee including its wings, hairs and antenna.
I thought it would be useful to show you how much pollen accumulates on these bees. The image below shows the pollen accumulated on the torso and legs.
This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Canon EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro Lens. The camera was set on Manual mode with the aperture set at f/16, shutter speed at 1/160 with the ISO set at 100. As was the case in the other image, I used my Canon MT-24 Twin Flash to light the subject and a tripod to hold my rig steady. All processing was done in Lightroom.
