Wind Chime

My new Sigma 150-600 mm lens came in last week and I was looking forward to testing it. So, I went out in my front yard and shot some images just to test it and to make sure the lens was working properly. I framed up a wind chime that was about 20 feet in front of me and captured this image. I did not like it at first but it grew on me. I eventually liked the composition and the background. The green section is the vegetation across the street and the light area at the bottom is my concrete driveway.

Long lenses (e.g. greater than 300mm) yield a great, blurry background (also known as Bokeh).  Wide apertures (e.g. f/2.8-5.6) yield the same result. Both of those combined provide a very nice, soft background.  I plan on using this lens for wildlife photography. I have relatively little experience in this area and I look forward to learning more about this type of photography.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my Sigma 150-600 mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens set on 570 mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/6.3, shutter speed at 1/50 and the ISO at 400.
