Fire in the Sky

I flew in and out of Denver for my recent trip to Moab. My friends took me to Denver’s City Park for a sunset shot during my last evening there. What a fantastic sunset! For some reason, the sunsets in the west are more intense. Perhaps it’s the dry air? Either way, it was a great evening and the sunset was amazing.  It’s as though there was fire in the sky…

City Park is an urban park and neighborhood in Denver. The 330 acre park is located in the east-central part of the city and is home to the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Ferril and Duck Lakes, and a boathouse. The image below is of Ferril Lake and the boathouse is in the background. It was quite breezy that evening so a glass-like reflection on the lake was not possible.  Otherwise, the image would have been a 10!

Fire in the Sky
Denver City Park – Sunset

This image was taken with my Sony A7R using my Sony 24-70mm f/4 lens set on 24 mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/22, shutter speed at 1/8th of a second and the ISO set at 50. I decided to use a small aperture (f/22) and the very low ISO (50) to slow down the shutter speed and smooth out the water but it was not enough. Normally I would have used my Lee Filters to do this but I forgot to bring them.  So, no smooth water, just blurry water. Oh well.
