Havana Apartment

While in Havana last year I had the opportunity to visit communities, museums and tourist sites. After site seeing one evening, I decided to take a little detour through the streets of Havana. I wanted to see the “other side of Havana”. The apartment in the image below as representative of more than half the apartments that I saw in the area. Very run down and highly deteriorated by the elements. The architecture must have been splendid in its day but right now it is an unsafe place to live. I read a book that talked bout Cuban life and how “derrumbes” (building collapses) are a common occurrence. As you can see in the image below, the apartment has lost some of its facade and large stones have fallen off from above. The building next door is under renovation.

This image was taken with my SONY NEX-6 using my E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS set on 16 mm. The camera was set on Aperture Priority mode with the aperture set at f/4.5, shutter speed at 1/20 and ISO was set at 3200 due to the poor lighting conditions. Processing was done in Lightroom and Photoshop.
