The Spiny Hedge Hog is a cactus found in many parts of Texas. I found this very nice specimen during my trip to Big Bend National Park earlier this year. The cactus flower is a colorful yellow and brown flower with a green stigma. I took the image of this cactus while hiking the trail to Cattail Falls. The stigma reminds me of those sugar-coasted fruit rollups. I’m certain they are anything but sweet.
This single image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my EF100 f/2.8L Macro lens. I used my Canon MT-24 Twin Flash to light the subject. The camera was set on Manual Mode with the aperture set at f/16, shutter speed at 1/200 and the ISO set at 100. Processing was done in Lightroom.
