Canyon’s First Light

The Santa Elena Canyon is another main attraction within the Big Bend National Park which is located in southwestern Texas. The canyon is part of the US/Mexico border and is home to the Rio Grand. The image below was captured at sunrise during a trip to the park with some of my photography friends. One the left is Mexico and on the right is the United States. There are many trails through the canyon and hiking into it is a treat.  We did not do this during this trip but I’m planning on doing that during my next visit.

This image was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark III using my EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM set on 58 mm. The camera was set on Aperture priority mode with the aperture set at f/11, shutter speed at 1/3 and the ISO at 100. I processed three bracketed images (-1, 0, +1) in Photomatix and finished processing in Photoshop.  I thought a square crop on this photo was the right thing to do as it focused your eye more on the canyon.
